No-Prep Veneers in Chicago — Neer Hybrid System

Love your smile — without shaving your teeth

No-prep veneers are ultra-thin porcelain restorations bonded directly to the front of upper teeth without removing any enamel. At Chicago Aesthetic Dentistry in Lakeview, Dr. Brittany Dickinson places Neer no-prep veneers — a hybrid porcelain-composite system she can hand-shape and refine in the chair after bonding, producing a natural emergence at the gum line that pure porcelain systems can't match.

A non-invasive approach to veneers in Chicago using Neer no-prep technology. No drilling. No needles. A refined, natural upgrade in as little as two visits — when you're actually a candidate.

Over 100+ smile transformations designed with a focus on natural, balanced results.

For patients who want to enhance their smile—without committing to traditional veneers.

My Honest Take on No-Prep Veneers

I'll tell you something most cosmetic dentists won't: no-prep veneers are done too often, on too many people who shouldn't be getting them.

The marketing makes them sound like a magic upgrade — same beautiful result, no drilling. The reality is more nuanced. No-prep veneers are a beautiful, conservative option for the right patient. For the wrong patient, they end up bulky, opaque, and looking like a Hollywood-grade overlay rather than a natural smile.

My job as your cosmetic dentist isn't to sell you the easiest treatment. It's to recommend the one that will actually look like your smile, only better.

You’ve thought about fixing your smile… but something has held you back

No-prep Neer veneers result by Dr. Brittany Dickinson, Chicago cosmetic dentist in Lakeview — conservative, undetectable smile design.

For most people, it's not the desire — it's the hesitation.

The idea of shaving down healthy teeth. Committing to something permanent. Not knowing if it will look like you.

Honestly? Those concerns are valid. And they're exactly why I added Neer no-prep veneers to my practice — for the patient who wants the cosmetic upgrade without the commitment of traditional veneers, and who is genuinely a good candidate for this approach.

How No-Prep Veneers Work (and Why It Matters)

Traditional porcelain veneers require us to gently shape — or "prep" — the front surface of your tooth before the veneer is placed. That shaping creates room for the veneer to sit flush, so the final result looks like your natural tooth, just refined. No-prep veneers skip the shaping. The veneer is bonded directly on top of your existing tooth structure.

That means:

  • No numbing required. No needles, no shots.

  • No drilling. No vibration, no sound, no removal of enamel.

  • Reversible. Because we haven't altered the underlying tooth, no-prep veneers can theoretically be removed.

Sounds great — and for the right person, it is. But here's what no one tells you: if we're adding material on top of your existing tooth without removing any, the final tooth has to be bigger than the original. That's not a problem if your teeth are small to begin with. It is a problem if they aren't.

Important — Neer Veneers Are Upper Teeth Only

Before we go further, an honest constraint: I only place Neer no-prep veneers on upper teeth, never lowers.

Lower teeth sit behind your uppers when your mouth is closed. Adding any thickness to the front of a lower tooth — even ultra-thin no-prep material — can interfere with how your bite comes together and how your teeth wear over time. If you want to enhance your lower smile, traditional porcelain veneers (which involve light shaping) are the safer, longer-lasting option.

If you're hoping for a full upper-and-lower transformation with zero prep, no honest cosmetic dentist can deliver that. I'd rather tell you up front.

Who Is Actually a Candidate?

You're a strong candidate for no-prep Neer veneers if:

  • Your upper teeth are smaller than you'd like them to be. Maybe they look short, or they have gaps, or they appear "lost" in your smile. Adding a thin layer of material gives you the fuller, more proportioned smile you want.

  • You're a younger patient with no existing dental work on the front teeth. No old crowns, no large fillings, no prior veneers.

  • You're afraid of needles or the sound of the drill. Dental anxiety is real, and no-prep gives us a way to deliver beautiful cosmetic results without triggering it.

  • You want a conservative, reversible-in-theory option and are comfortable with the longevity tradeoffs (more on those below).

  • You only want to address your upper smile — or you're open to no-prep on uppers and traditional porcelain on lowers.

Who Is NOT a Candidate?

I'd rather tell you the truth in a consultation than oversell you a treatment you'll regret. You're probably not a great candidate for no-prep veneers if:

  • Your teeth are already on the larger side. Adding material will make them look bulky and unnatural.

  • Your teeth are very crooked. Veneering over crookedness without prep means we'd have to add a lot of material to mask it — and you'd end up with a thick, opaque-looking smile.

  • You want highly customized color or micro-detail. Pure porcelain no-prep systems like Lumineers and DURAthin are made entirely in a lab and can't be hand-adjusted in the chair. (Neer is different — more on that below.)

  • You have existing dental work on the front teeth. Old crowns, large composite fillings, or prior veneers usually mean a different treatment plan makes more sense.

  • You want to enhance your lower teeth. This material is upper only.

If any of these apply to you, that doesn't mean veneers are off the table — it means traditional porcelain veneers are likely the better path. We'll talk through it during your consultation.

Why I Chose Neer Instead of Lumineers

Most no-prep dentists offer pure porcelain systems — Lumineers, DURAthin, and similar lab-made all-ceramic veneers. They look beautiful when the case is right, but they share one limitation: once they're in your mouth, they can't be adjusted. Whatever shape comes back from the lab is what you live with.

I made a deliberate choice to offer Neer no-prep veneers instead. Neer is built from a proprietary hybrid porcelain-composite material — and that material choice changes everything about what I can deliver in the chair.

After I bond your Neer veneers in place, I can hand-shape and refine them in the chair — thinning the edges at the gum line for a natural emergence, adjusting micro-contours, and polishing them to a high luster. This is the difference between a veneer that sits on your tooth and one that looks like your tooth.

Pure porcelain doesn't allow this kind of in-chair finessing. The Neer hybrid material does. It's how I deliver no-prep results that don't look like no-prep work.

A Simple, Thoughtful Process

Step 1: Consultation + Smile Design

  • A digital iTero 3D scan and a straightforward candidacy conversation. I'll tell you whether Neer is right for you — or whether traditional veneers would give you a better outcome.

Step 2: Custom Creation

  • Your veneers are designed specifically for your face, your features, and the way you naturally express yourself. No templates.

Step 3: Placement + In-Chair Refinement

  • No numbing, no drilling. After bonding, I hand-shape and polish each veneer for a natural emergence at the gum line — the detail that pure porcelain systems can't replicate.

Cost of No-Prep Neer Veneers in Chicago

I'll give you the transparent economics, because they matter for this decision. Neer no-prep veneers in my practice are $8,000 for a full upper smile package.

That's significantly less than traditional porcelain veneers — and it's not a markdown for inferior work. The hybrid porcelain-composite material has a much lower lab cost than pure porcelain, and I pass that savings directly to you.

The tradeoff is longevity and maintenance:

Neer No-Prep Veneers Traditional Porcelain Veneers
Pricing $8,000 full upper smile $2,100–$3,000 per tooth
Replacement cycle ~5 years 10–15 years
Maintenance Repolish every 2 years Routine cleanings only
Reversibility In theory, yes No (tooth is shaped)
Upper or lower Upper teeth only Upper and lower

Over a 15-year horizon, the lifetime cost ends up roughly comparable — porcelain lasts longer, Neer is cheaper upfront and easier to refresh. Neither is "better" in a vacuum. The right answer depends on your candidacy, your priorities, and how you feel about ongoing maintenance.

What I won't do is quote you a low number to win the case and skip the conversation about replacement timing and the 2-year repolish. You deserve to know the full picture before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. Because we're not shaping the underlying tooth, no anesthesia is required and no enamel is removed. This is the primary appeal for patients with dental anxiety.

  • Yes — when the case is right. The Neer hybrid porcelain-composite material lets me hand-shape and polish each veneer in the chair after bonding, producing a natural emergence at the gum line that pure porcelain systems can't match. For the wrong candidate (large teeth, very crooked teeth), no-prep veneers will look bulky no matter who places them — which is why I'm upfront about candidacy.

  • In theory, yes — because the underlying tooth structure is preserved. In practice, removing bonded veneers requires careful work and isn't something most patients ever pursue.

  • Approximately 5 years before replacement, with a recommended polish every 2 years to maintain luster. Traditional porcelain veneers last 10–15 years with routine cleanings only.

  • $8,000 for a full upper smile package at Chicago Aesthetic Dentistry. That's significantly less than traditional porcelain veneers because the lab cost of the hybrid porcelain-composite material is lower.

  • No — I only place Neer veneers on upper teeth. Adding thickness to lower teeth can interfere with your bite. If you want to enhance your lower smile, traditional porcelain veneers or a full smile makeover are better options.

  • Both are no-prep brands. Lumineers is pure porcelain made entirely in a lab and cannot be adjusted after bonding. Neer is a hybrid porcelain-composite material that I can hand-shape and refine in the chair after bonding — which produces a more natural-looking result, especially at the gum line.

  • The simplest answer: if your upper teeth are smaller than you want them to look, you're likely a candidate. If they're larger or very crooked, you're likely not. A consultation gives a definitive answer in under 30 minutes.
